Alumnus Miss Precious Sinethemba Zondi (27) was a finalist in the Accenture Rising Star Awards. An account manager at an advertising agency, she was nominated for her outstanding skills in Media and Marketing/Advertising.
‘I know everyone says they feel honoured to have either won or made it to the semi-finals or finals but there is really no other way to describe it. This opportunity has reminded me of what I am capable of; it will allow me to capitalise on my abilities whilst doing all that I can to take my career to the next level’, she said.
Zondi, who graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Honours summa cum laude, chose a career in Communications as she was passionate about it. Completing her Bachelor of Arts and then doing a double major in English Studies and Media & Cultural Studies opened the way to numerous career opportunities within the industry and allowed her to successfully develop her skills in her department.
The Rising Star journey as well as being recognised at such an early stage of her career has laid a good foundation for growth in her field.
Zondi said, ‘The whole process tests your leadership capabilities as you are judged according to certain criteria and standards by a panel of judges and seasoned professionals’.
She believes in self-affirmation and encourages her peers to think positively of themselves and work hard towards their own goals. ‘You have to believe in yourself more than anybody else. You are your own best.’
